The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched its mobile app, ‘DMRC Travel,’ with which commuters can purchase QR code tickets online.
iOS version coming
It is available on all Android platforms and an iOS version in the works.
Thanks to the app, passengers can conveniently buy tickets from their homes without having to stand in queues at metro stations.
How it works
After downloading and registering on the app, one can buy tickets and directly scan them at the gate using their phones.
Payment
The app supports various payment methods such as UPI, Credit/Debit Cards, and Wallets.
Caution
In case the phone is lost or runs out of battery during the journey, the rider will have to repurchase the ticket from the customer care kiosk.
Additional features
The app is useful not just for buying tickets but for other stuff as well.
It includes extra features such as a travel planner, fare calculator, station information, and smart card recharge options.
It also shows route information from origin to destination, including interchange stations.
Users can also access their transaction history to rebook tickets for the same journey.
Availability
Currently about 60% of stations are equipped with QR code-compatible automated fare collection (AFC) gates.
The DMRC is now prepared to extend mobile-based ticketing across the entire metro network.
Facilitating the remaining 40% of stations with QR reading AFC gates is expected to be completed within the next 1 to 2 months.
