In a recent update, the media reported that Apple and OpenAI have finalized a deal to integrate OpenAI’s AI with Apple’s software.
Apple & OpenAI Deal To Integrate ChatGPT In iPhone
This deal holds a great significance as besides being a billions of dollars it will bring OpenAI’s conversational AI products into Apple’s software, as informed by the person known to this development on the condition of anonymity.
Further, the iPhone maker has had discussions with both Google and OpenAI on using their AI chatbots in iOS 18.
But it appears that Altman’s company prevailed eventually.
Now all the media is waiting for this announcement as it is expected to be made at Apple’s developer conference, WWDC which is scheduled to be held between June 10 and 14.
Interestingly this report further talks about the internal opposition at Apple on the subject of using AI chatbots.
Apple Lagged Behind The In Game Of AI
“The last thing people needed was another AI chatbot” , said John Giannandrea, Apple’s head of AI/ML, reportedly told to employees when asked if the iPhone-maker has plans to create AI-related tools.
When it comes to developing AI products, it won’t be an exaggeration to say that Apple has lagged other Big Tech companies.
This deal is a part of OpenAI’s push to prioritize commercial products and generate revenue aside from advancing research in AI with new models and such.
In recent news, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella met with OpenAI’s Altman to discuss concerns over the agreement.
They also talked about how this would conflict Microsoft’s own partnership with the AI firm.
It appears that Altman and his supporters plan to change OpenAI’s structure to a for-profit one or a benefit corporation, also known as a B-Corp, as claimed in the report.
It is noteworthy here that this will also have additional goals beyond shareholder interest and protect them from shareholder lawsuits if they acted for reasons other than profit-making.
