Capgemini to Ramp Up India Hiring, Sees Job Growth Despite AI
Global software major Capgemini intends sizable headcount addition in India in financial year 2024-25, projecting a turnaround in global tech spending after recent pressures leading IT firms to trim recruits. Currently at 1.75 lakh staff locally, the hiring spree mirrors domestic IT peers.
Capgemini India CTO Nisheeth Srivastava expects AI and automation to expand, not reduce jobs by enabling wider tech skill penetration. But skills like data, analytics, machine learning and cybersecurity require urgent upgrading to tap opportunities.
Education Curriculum Doesn’t Meet Industry Needs
Srivastava highlighted India’s technical education lag where under 1% institutes meet software industry standards, preventing maximizing job creation. In contrast, countries like China and Israel have aligned education to fuel tech innovation and opportunities.
Recruitment firm Xpheno estimates demand bouncing back for specialized roles in user interfaces, data science etc. amid expected industry growth. But skill building remains vital to tap changing industry needs.
