Michael Saylor Credits ChatGPT For $15 Billion

Bitcoin billionaire Michael Saylor has claimed that artificial intelligence, particularly ChatGPT, helped him generate $15 billion last year through his company Strategy’s controversial Bitcoin-backed preferred stock products.

Saylor made the claim while speaking on The Diary Of A CEO podcast, saying he used AI to create financial products that had never been developed before.

The claim offers a striking example of how Saylor believes AI can be used not simply to automate existing tasks, but to develop completely new financial strategies.

Strategy Has Nearly 850,000 Bitcoin

Strategy has transformed itself from a software company into a major Bitcoin accumulation vehicle since making the shift in 2020.

According to the report, the company has purchased almost 850,000 Bitcoin over the past six years, worth more than $50 billion. Many of those purchases have been financed through debt and equity sales.

The company’s aggressive Bitcoin strategy has made Saylor one of the most prominent corporate advocates of the cryptocurrency.

ChatGPT Helped Design Preferred Stock Products

Saylor’s use of AI was specifically linked to Strategy’s Bitcoin-backed preferred stock offerings.

The company launched its STRK and STRF preferred stock products in early 2025 to raise capital for additional Bitcoin purchases.

STRK carries an 8% dividend, payable either in cash or Strategy’s common stock, and can be converted into common shares. STRF is non-convertible and is designed to provide greater stability for fixed-income investors.

Strategy’s 12% dividend-paying STRC has also attracted significant attention. The stock recently recovered towards its intended $100 level after falling to around $75 in late June.

Saylor’s Rule For Using AI

Saylor’s philosophy goes beyond asking AI to perform tasks humans already know how to do.

He argued that people should learn how to ask AI to accomplish things that have never been done before, rather than spending time learning tasks that AI can already perform.

For Saylor, the real opportunity lies in finding what he describes as the “magic opportunity” where AI can help create something genuinely new.

Strategy Has Also Built A $4 Billion Cash Reserve

Strategy’s Bitcoin-heavy approach has also exposed it to significant market volatility.

The company’s common stock has lost around 80% of its value over the last year, moving alongside the decline in Bitcoin’s price.

Strategy has recently sold some Bitcoin to help manage debt and dividend commitments. At the same time, the company has accumulated a $4 billion cash reserve, which Saylor says provides around two years of runway before the company needs to raise additional funds.

Not Everyone Is Convinced

Saylor’s claim has generated both criticism and praise.

Some observers have questioned whether using AI to design financial products represents an innovative breakthrough or a risky financial strategy. Others have described the approach as sophisticated financial engineering, particularly given Strategy’s ability to use debt and equity markets to build its Bitcoin holdings.

The bigger takeaway from Saylor’s comments is his belief that AI’s most valuable role is not simply making existing work faster, but helping people discover entirely new ways of solving difficult problems.

Summary

Bitcoin billionaire Michael Saylor says ChatGPT helped Strategy generate $15 billion last year through Bitcoin-backed preferred stock products. Strategy has accumulated almost 850,000 Bitcoin worth more than $50 billion since 2020. Saylor says AI helped design financial products that had not been created before. The company has also built a $4 billion cash reserve while its common stock has lost around 80% of its value over the last year.
