It was earlier said that the state government would role out a new guidance value-based property tax computation method from April 1, 2024 in the city. Amid this, the apparition of tax spike was haunting everyone, but much to the relief of everyone, the ruling party has decided not to change anything in the tax.

As per the reports, the same is said to be driven by not wanting to risk the backlash in the Lok Sabha elections.

The Deputy Chief Minster of the state, DK Shivakumar took to X to clarify the doubts around the property tax hike, he said that “It has been brought to my notice that fake news peddlers are peddling fake news on social media regarding the increase in property tax rate by the BBMP w.e.f. April 1, 2024. I would like to clear the air here for Bengaluru residents that BBMP has not hiked any property tax, which will continue to be levied at the same rate as was prescribed in 2016. Please do not believe any rumours regarding the same [sic].”

Action Against Spread of False Property Tax Information

Post this post, the chief commissioner of BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike), Tushar Giri Nath said the city police commissioner has been asked to take stern measures against those miscreants who are after the spreading of the fake news on internet.

As on March 13, there was a video on Instagram by a citizen in which he claimed that the property taxes in Bengaluru have been increased and would come into effect on April 1.

The video had gone viral. Clarifying as well as pacifying the property taxpayers, Nath said that “The claims in the video were false. Property taxpayers shouldn’t be alarmed in any way.”
