Patanjali Officers Fined and Jailed For Products Not Passing Quality Test

In Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, a laboratory served as the test site. In 2019, there were concerns about Patanjali Navratna Elaichi Soan Papdi brought up by a food safety inspector. The issues were brought up at Berinag, Pithoragarh, at Lila Dhar Pathak’s store. After the event, samples of the sweet were gathered.

Notifications were sent to Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. in Haridwar and Kanaha Ji Distributor in Ramnagar.

The testing laboratory reported the sweet’s inferior quality in December 2020. Lila Dhar Pathak, Ajay Joshi, the distributor, and Abhishek Kumar, the assistant manager of Patanjali, were named in lawsuits.

Each of the three people received a fine of ₹5,000, ₹10,000, and ₹25,000.

Patanjali Ayurved Questioned By Supreme Court

Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. was recently questioned by the Supreme Court about the selling of 14 items whose manufacturing licenses were stopped. The licenses for these products were stopped by the Uttarakhand State Licensing Authority.

Senior attorney for Patanjali, Balbir Singh, verified that these goods were no longer being sold. The Supreme Court requested affidavits from Patanjali regarding the actions done to remove advertisements for the items that were suspended. The deadline for filing the affidavits is three weeks.

Regarding the contempt notice sent to Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, Balkrishna, and Ramdev, the Supreme Court postponed making any decisions. It was not necessary for Ramdev and Balkrishna to show up in court until certain directives were given.

The case emphasizes the need for regulations to take action against inferior food items. The fact that Patanjali is involved emphasizes how crucial it is to follow food safety regulations.
