This year the Bharat Mandapam plays host to the G20, arguably the Olympics in terms of magnitude when it comes to international relations, at scale at least.
It is relatively new, but admittedly special which invites curiosity as to what and why it is what it is.
Also known as the “culture corridor”, the Mandapam is hosting the 18th G20 Summit this year.
Bharat Mandapam
Bharat Mandapam is an international exhibition-cum-convention centre (IECC) which is hosting this year’s G20 summit.
It was inaugurated on July 26, after completion of construction to the tune of approximately Rs 2,700 crores.

- It is designed with the specific intention of hosting international exhibitions, trade fairs, conventions, conferences, and other grand events.
- The name is derived from Lord Basaveshwara’s concept of Anubhav Mandapam.
- It is officially India’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facility.
- It overtakes the Sydney Opera House in Australia in terms of seating capacity! It can easily accommodate up to 7,000 attendees.

The grand architecture features an exclusive Leaders’ Lounge where world leaders such as US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and French President Emmanuel Macron, among others can simply relax in a week of exhaustive deliberation.
