WhatsApp has rolled out one of its biggest updates for desktop users by bringing audio and video calling directly to WhatsApp Web. For the first time, users can make and receive both individual and group calls from a web browser without downloading the WhatsApp desktop application.

Make Calls Directly From Your Browser
Until now, WhatsApp users needed either the mobile app or the dedicated desktop application to make voice and video calls.
With the latest update, users can now place and receive one-to-one and group audio or video calls directly from browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and other supported web browsers through WhatsApp Web.
The browser version also supports end-to-end encryption, ensuring the same level of privacy available on mobile and desktop apps.
No App Download Required
The new feature is especially useful for users who work on office computers or shared systems where installing software may not be possible.
Apart from calling, WhatsApp Web now includes a dedicated Calls tab, giving users quick access to recent calls, favourites and call history. Features such as screen sharing and emoji reactions during calls are also available through the browser.
Transfer Calls Between Devices
WhatsApp has introduced a seamless Call Transfer feature that allows users to move an ongoing call from one device to another.
For example, users can start a call on their smartphone while travelling and later transfer it to WhatsApp Web or the desktop app after reaching home or the office, without disconnecting the call.

Waiting Room For Better Group Call Control
A new Waiting Room feature gives hosts greater control over group calls.
When creating a call link, users can enable the “Require approval to join” option. Participants entering through the link will remain in a waiting room until the host approves their entry, adding an extra layer of privacy and security for meetings and group discussions.
HD Video And Better Audio Quality
WhatsApp has also improved overall call quality.
A new QuickHD feature delivers high-definition video almost immediately after a call begins instead of waiting several seconds for the quality to improve.
The platform has also added Noise Suppression, which uses AI to reduce background sounds and improve voice clarity, making conversations easier even in noisy environments.
