2.7 Billion Whatsapp Users Can Now Block Spam Without Unlocking Smartphone: But How?

We all are noticing a rise in the number of spam messages we get on WhatsApp, and this new feature would be even more convenient for us.

Read on to find out all the details!

How to Block Spam Messages From Locked Screen?

While businesses spam us with promotions, there also are cyber criminals looking for their next victims. The new features of WhatsApp will allow users to block spam messages directly from the lock screen of a cell phone. They will be able to block users without having to unlock their devices or navigate the Meta-owned app.

To block a spam message from the lock screen, you will have to long press the spam message notification on the lock screen. This will open up a series of options. These options include blocking the sender immediately and reporting the contact as well.

Whatsapp already has the option to block and report unknown numbers. Additionally, users will always have to option to block contacts directly from settings.

Upcoming Features of WhatsApp

WhatsApp engineering director Dick Brouwer has confirmed the messaging platform boasting over 2 billion users intends to allow interoperability with rival networks from May, complying with upcoming EU Digital Markets Act (DMA) rules targeting Big Tech gatekeepers. However, feature parity between native and third-party chats remains unlikely given security implications.

WhatsApp is planning to introduce several features keeping in mind user privacy, connectivity and overall user experience. One of them is WhatsApp usernames. When we want to connect with someone on WhatsApp, we need their phone numbers necessarily, this leads to the discomfort many user face in sharing or asking for phone numbers.

With the intent to solve this, WhatsApp is coming up with usernames, that will allow users to connect with each other without the need to share phone numbers. Fostering an overall safer online environment, this feature furthers the extra layer of security as well as control over personal contact details. Further enhancing privacy and flexibility is that users shall be able to change their usernames.
