15 Crore Smartphones Sold Across India In 2024; Apple Enters Top 5 Smartphone Brand List

While AI is taking over the world, the Indian smartphone market is projected to grow by 4% year on year (YoY) in 2024.

Apple Making To The Top 5 Brands In India 

So far the shipments have reached 151 million units as mentioned in the International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker. 

Moving ahead, the report talks about the country experiencing a massive 7% growth in the first half but only 2% in the second half. 

Apple appears to have sold a record 12 million units, representing an impressive 35% year-on-year growth, as per the IDC report.

The brand has made to the fourth largest market i.e. India after the United States, China, and Japan. 

While occupying a 10% market share, for the first time, Apple has entered the top five smartphone brands in India.

This brand’s highest-shipped models were the iPhone 15 and iPhone 13 as per the report.

Growth Of Indian Smartphone Market 

If we check segment wise, the premium segment ($600<$800) witnessed a 34.9% YoY rise, increasing its share from 3% to 4%.

Similarly, the entry-premium segment ($200<$400) grew 35.3% YoY, while taking a market share of 28%. 

This sale was primarily driven by the Samsung Galaxy S23/S24 and the iPhone 15/13/14. 

 This year’s increased sales seems to have been affected by many factors including the festive discounts, extended warranties, and financing options, especially No Cost EMIs for up to 24 months, said the media report.

Increase Of 5G Adoption In The Country 

In addition to this, 120 million 5G smartphones were shipped in 2024.

This way, the brand has occupied the 5G share by 79% (up from 55% in 2023) cashing in the result of the surge in 5G smartphone adoption.

While gaining a 47% share, the shipments in the mass-budget 5G segment ($100<$200) almost doubled. 

The list of the popular 5G models during this time includes devices like Xiaomi Redmi 13C, Apple iPhone 15, vivo Y28, iPhone 13, and Vivo T3X.

When it comes to the offline and online channels, it grew by 4% year on year, while market shares remained stable at 51% and 49%, respectively. 

In the meantime, the online market is dominated by Samsung while Apple climbed to fourth place, with the iPhone 15 being the most shipped smartphone online. 

Contrary to this, the offline sales were dominated by Vivo, OPPO and Xiaomi in second and third place, respectively.
