On July 15, Ola Electric started accepting bookings for its upcoming electric scooter, Ola Scooter on its website, https://olaelectric.com/.
Early in the evening on Thursday, the Chairman & Group CEO of Ola, Bhavish Aggarwal tweeted about the bookings going live, however due to a heightened demand, the website faced some issues, which was later fixed by the team, informed Aggarwal.
Ola electric scooter can be reserved online for only a deposit of Rs 499, which the company states is 100% refundable.
While Ola has not yet released a fixed date for launching its electric scooter, the latter is expected to hit the market in the upcoming weeks.
Ola Scooter Bookings Begin
In December 2020, the ride-sharing platform Ola signed an MoU with the government of Tamil Nadu for setting up the first electric two-wheeler manufacturing facility in Krishnagiri, on a land spanning 500-acre, which would bill the facility as the largest in the world, for manufacturing electric vehicles.
The work started in January 2021 and Ola started with an annual capacity of generating 2 million units of electric scooter.
However, now that the bookings for Ola scooter have started, the company aims to make around 10 million units of the EV on an annual basis.
On Thursday, Ola Electric opened the bookings for its electric scooter on its website. Those who reserve their scooter online shall get prior delivery.
Interested buyers can log into the website/platform through their phone number, followed by an OTP verification. Additionally, one buyer can reserve more than one scooter.
Besides, there will not be any documents required to reserve the electric vehicle and the reserved order can be cancelled or modified at any time, as the reservation amount is completely refundable.
While Ola hasn’t disclosed any information on the volume of bookings made, or complete features and launch date of the vehicle, it has released many teasers of the vehicle.
It has, however, informed about a few features of the electric scooter.
Key Features of Ola Scooter
The company has informed that the Ola Scooter will be equipped with,
- ‘class-leading speed’,
- Range,
- ‘largest-in-class boot (storage) space’, and
- many first-in-class features.
Ola scooter will also provide a ‘no-key’ experience, which will be replaced by app-based start-up system.

Currently, the lack of charging stations is the biggest reason for the use of electric vehicles in India. Ola Electric is working towards investing a total of $2 billion until 2026 to set up over 1 lakh charging station across 400 cities.
