US President Joe Biden Expected To Sign These Orders; Will H1B & Immigration Get Impacted?

Joe Biden all set to sign several executive orders, covering immigration policies to the Iran deal, in the 1st 10 days of Presidency.

The President-elect of the United States, Joe Biden will be sworn in as the country’s 46th President on January 20, 2021, 10:30 pm Indian Standard Time. 

In a memo released on Saturday, Jan 16, the incoming White House chief of staff, Ron Klain outlined a series of executive orders to be signed by Biden in his initial days as the POTUS.

This includes his plans to roll back some of the major policies put into place by Donald Trump, including passing an immigration bill, revoking travel bans on some majority-Muslim countries, climate change actions and a Covid stimulus and relief package in the country.

Biden to Sign Exec Orders in Early Days of Presidency

Joe Biden has already outlined his plans of signing several executives orders, in the early days of his Presidency.

He announced the Covid vaccine deliveries across the country on Friday.

On Saturday, the incoming White House chief of staff outlined a list of all the activities that will be conducted by Biden in the first 10 days of his entry in the President office, via a memo.

This includes:

  • Passing an immigration bill,
  • A Covid stimulus and relief package,
  • Revoking the travel ban on several majority-Muslim countries,
  • Rejoining the Paris climate accords,
  • Rejoining the Iran nuclear deal
  • Extending limits on student loan payments,
  • Restricting evictions and foreclosures under the pandemic, and
  • Issuing a mask mandate on federal properties and for interstate travel.

In the memo released on Saturday, Klain says,

“These actions will change the course of Covid-19, combat climate change, promote racial equity and support other underserved communities, and rebuild our economy in ways that strengthen the backbone of this country: the working men and women who built our nation.

While the policy objectives in these executive actions are bold, I want to be clear: the legal theory behind them is well-founded and represents a restoration of an appropriate, constitutional role for the president.”

Biden to Take Actions Supporting People of Color

According to a news source, Biden will sign executive actions focused on addressing the Covid-19 pandemic, including ways to help schools and businesses reopen safely, expand testing, protect workers and establish clearer public health standards, on his second day in the office.

The next day, he will direct his Cabinet to work on delivering economic relief to families most affected by the crisis.

In the following days, Biden will:

  • expand the ‘Buy America provisions’,
  • Take actions and advancements towards equality and supporting of communities of color,
  • Start reforming the criminal justice,
  • Expand access to healthcare, and
  • Work toward reuniting families separated at the border.

As per Klain’s memo, Biden’s introduction includes a $1.9 trillion relief bill.
