India Can Ban Plastic After October 2nd

dIn one of the biggest measures ever to be taken in India, PM Modi led BJP Govt. can ban plastic pan-India. This can be implemented from October 2nd, which is the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

As per an unnamed official from Govt. of India, this plastic ban will be for manufacturing, usage and import.

Which Type Of Plastic Will Be Banned?

Single-use plastic, which is considered as of the biggest causes of pollution, can be the type of plastic which can face ban, pan-india.

Products such as bags, cups, plates, small bottles, straws and certain types of sachets are currently made by single-use plastic.

India’s Push Towards Plastic-Free, Pollution-Free India

During the August 15th speech, PM Modi has emphasized on creation a pollution-free India, and he had promised that major steps would be taken to eradicate pollution once for all.

This month, we reported that Indian Railways will ban single-use plastic in and around trains, and within railway stations. The implementation date of this major step is also October 2nd.

Single-use plastic is considered as one of the biggest causes of pollution, especially marine pollution. Thousands of whales, sharks and other marine creatures die every year because of single-use plastics.

In 2019, New York City banned the usage of single usage plastics effective 2020, and this will help them save 12 million barrels of oil annually, which is used to make these single use plastics.

By 2021, European Union will ban single-use plastic products such as straws, forks, knives and cotton buds.
