AP Govt Unveils High Speed FiberNet Broadband Service; Brings 15Mbps @ Rs 149 & 100Mbps @ Rs 999

Fiber optics are the future of internet and a lot of companies are increasing the reach of fiber based networks across India. ACT Fibrenet leads the race with pan-India expansion plans in the pipeline, while Google Fiber is still planning the launch of its own service.

Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu launched the first phase of the ‘Fiber Grid Project’ in Visakhapatnam, expected to deliver low cost internet broadband services to the people in AP.

He also tweeted about this broadband offering:

National Optic Fiber Network has taken up the project as a pilot in AP, with an estimated cost of Rs 333 Crore. The broadband service will spread to other parts of the state by July this year.

Cisco has signed an MoU with AP Government to lay down the infrastructure for AP Fibernet and will be aiding the Government in making the Phase 1 a success. The project is expected to start from a few major cities and expand to other regions slowly.

Details about AP Fibernet Broadband service

Naidu’s aim is to provide cheap and efficient internet services to all households in the state, adhering to the Digital India campaign.

The prices are really bang for the buck, if they promise to deliver the speed guaranteed. 15Mbps plan starts at Rs 149 per month to households, while 100Mbps connection would cost Rs 999 a month and is available for offices only.

Even though data would cost separate, the pricing is still excellent and people in the state should be able to adopt it quickly. These rates are anyway lower than the competition in AP, which makes the service excellent value for money.

Will the internet be worth it?

Hell yes! It will be definitely worth it. You’re getting a speed of 15Mbps straight to your home, where you can enjoy TV, movies and entertainment activities online at blazing fast speeds. Gone are the days when the buffering wheel would spoil your day and waste your time.

It would have been better if there was an option of 100Mbps for households as well, but we’re not complaining. It is always good to start with something and gradually improve and innovate with the services.

For people in Andhra Pradesh, it is time to rejoice! The Government has taken a bold step of launching high-speed internet services at such low prices. All we’re hoping now is that the fibernet delivers what it guarantees and does not scam the people in the state.
