Burger King Offers Whoppers, Goodies On Ebay Before Delhi Store Launch. Why Did They Do It?

Burger King Offers Whoppers, Goodies On Ebay. Why Did They Do It?

Have you had Burger King whoppers before? If you are in Delhi, you will soon be able to relish those 5 inch mouth-watering Whoppers.

Burger King is opening their first store at Select City Walk mall in Saket, New Delhi on  November 9th. And to generate initial buzz around the launch they have taken an interesting route. They are selling promotional vouchers for their Whopper Burgers on ebay.in.

Priced at Rs. 128 (inclusive of taxes), customers can pick a voucher that will give them a Chicken, Mutton or Veg Whopper and along with it they will also get some extra goodies like Whopper T-Shirts. The burgers and goodies will have to be picked up only on the launch day on 9th November from their store at Select City Walk. One person can pick up not more than 2 vouchers.

At the time of writing this report, 219 Mutton, 170 Veg and 30 Chicken whoppers were sold. The sale started on 3rd November and will end on 5th November.

Why Burger King Decided to Sell Online?

Obviously to create buzz about their brand.

Burger King is an American Brand, and not really known much to locals in India. However, majority of Indians who are online are bound to know it because either they have traveled abroad and had a taste of it, or atleast have heard it through various online channels.

So people who have heard about it, are the one’s who are going to be most excited about their launch, and hence this online sale on eBay.

Another interesting analysis they will be able to do with this exercise will be to find out what is popular with Indian audience. eBay numbers will tell Burger King, which of their whoppers is going to be more popular. Like since launch of this sale, mutton whoppers seem to be much more popular than chicken. Even Veg burgers are quite popular.

India is a very different country when it comes to taste and their palette – Infact, the popularity of burgers probably may be exactly opposite to what it is in the US. From what we know – Chicken and Beef Whoppers are most popular followed by Mutton. On the other hand, there are hardly any takers for Veg.

This exercise will definitely give them an idea of what Indians want, even though it is at a smaller scale.
