Zomato, the food-delivery giant, has launched a new app, ‘District,’ aimed at combining dining reservations with ticket booking for movies, live events, sports, and more. Expanding Horizons: Zomato’s Strategy Behind ‘District’

With ‘District,’ Zomato seeks to diversify its revenue streams and tap into the thriving entertainment market. By acquiring Paytm’s ticketing business for ₹2,048 crore in August 2023, Zomato solidified its entry into the event and ticketing segment. The app positions itself as a go-to solution for users eager to dine out or enjoy entertainment experiences.

Key Features of ‘District’

The app offers an integrated approach to outings, allowing users to:

  • Book Movie Tickets: Choose from popular chains like PVR-Inox and Cinepolis.
  • Reserve Event Spots: Secure tickets for concerts, plays, and live performances.
  • Make Dining Reservations: Enjoy seamless table bookings through Zomato’s extensive restaurant network.

These features provide convenience for users while enabling Zomato to compete with established players like BookMyShow, a leader in event ticketing since 2007.

The Road Ahead for Zomato

‘District’ signals Zomato’s intent to dominate the entertainment and dining ecosystem. By combining its vast restaurant network with ticketing services, the app aims to attract users looking for comprehensive outing solutions. However, competition from seasoned platforms will test its ability to innovate and scale.
