Xiaomi, the Chinese electronics giant, is gearing up to launch its highly anticipated electric car, the SU7. Unveiled in December, Xiaomi aims to position itself as one of the top five automakers globally with this venture. The SU7 promises to be the “best looking, easiest to drive, and smartest car” in its segment.
Price and Availability
Xiaomi’s CEO has confirmed that the SU7 will be priced below 500,000 yuan (approximately $70,000 or Rs 58 lakh), making it an attractive option for electric vehicle enthusiasts. This announcement marks the first time Xiaomi has disclosed the upper end of the price range for the SU7. Official pricing details will be revealed on Thursday evening, with orders set to commence thereafter.
Key Features and Comparisons
The SU7 boasts cutting-edge technology capable of delivering acceleration on par with Tesla cars and Porsche’s EVs. Available in two versions, the car offers impressive driving ranges of up to 668km and 800km on a single charge, surpassing Tesla’s Model S, which has a range of up to 650km.
Xiaomi’s EV Strategy
Xiaomi has pledged a significant investment of $10 billion over a decade to solidify its presence in the electric vehicle market. As one of the few new entrants to gain approval from Chinese authorities, Xiaomi’s foray into EVs is backed by robust production capabilities. The company’s cars are manufactured by a unit of the state-owned BAIC Group, utilizing a Beijing factory with an annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles.
