Completion Of First Rake Of Vande Bharat Sleeper Train

It seems that the Uttarpara-based company is engaged in producing the sleeper version of Vande Bharat train in a consortium with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).

This unit will be producing 80 Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets, each of these will comprise 16 coaches.

The information is confirmed by the Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Titagarh Rail Systems Limited, Umesh Chowdhary noted, “Vande Bharat production has already started. We expect by the end of this financial year, that is March 2026, to be able to complete the car bodies of the first rake, which is 16 cars,” in a statement.

Coming to the progress on this project, the work on the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains is going on in full swing.

For the unawares, these trains are being developed as fully air-conditioned sleeper services with advanced systems.

In this case, Titagarh Rail Systems is playing a central role which is based in Uttarpara, West Bengal and this company is working in partnership with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to manufacture the trainsets.

Roll Out Of The First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train

Besides the manufacturing of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train, the company is also targeting to roll out the first train by the third quarter of the financial year 2027.

Moving ahead, Chowdhary added, “We are already in production, which will be again a milestone. And the first train is likely to be ready in the Q3 of the coming financial year.”

Earlier when Ministry of Railways awarded the contract to manufacture Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, they have considered three companies including BEML, Kinet Railway Solutions (a Joint Venture between Russian rolling stock major TMH and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited – RVNL) and a consortium of Titagarh Rail Systems Limited and Bharat Heavy Engineering Limited (BHEL).

Out of these, the Howrah-Kamakhya-Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper train which was earlier launched in January 2026 was developed by BEML using Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF) technology.
