State-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has ruled out any near-term tariff hikes, choosing instead to focus on improving service quality to retain and grow its customer base. The company has been making significant strides in the industry, especially with the recent launch of several innovative services.

No Tariff Hike Planned

Despite the recent tariff hikes by industry giants like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, BSNL has decided to keep its pricing stable. Robert Ravi, Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL, assured customers that no price increase is on the horizon, stating, “BSNL will not be raising tariffs shortly.” This strategy aims to retain the 2.9 million new mobile subscribers it gained in July, boosting its customer base to 88.5 million, accounting for 7.5% of India’s total mobile subscribers.

New Services to Enhance Customer Experience

In a bid to improve customer satisfaction, BSNL has rolled out a suite of new services, focusing on convenience, security, and innovation:

  1. Spam Protection: BSNL’s new spam-blocking solution automatically filters phishing attempts and malicious SMS, providing a safer and more secure communication environment for users.
  2. Automated SIM Kiosks: The introduction of 24/7 automated SIM kiosks allows customers to purchase, upgrade, port, or replace SIMs. These kiosks support UPI and QR-enabled payments, ensuring a seamless transaction process with multi-lingual support and integrated Know Your Customer (KYC) verification.
  3. Direct-to-Device Connectivity: India’s first direct-to-device connectivity solution, launched by BSNL, integrates satellite and terrestrial mobile networks to deliver reliable connectivity, especially in remote areas where terrestrial networks may not be sufficient.

BSNL’s 5G Push for Industrial Use

BSNL has partnered with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing to offer low-latency 5G connectivity for mining operations. This initiative is expected to improve the efficiency and safety of mining activities, showcasing BSNL’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology for industrial applications.

Conclusion

BSNL’s customer-centric approach, coupled with innovative service launches, positions it strongly in the competitive telecom market. By focusing on enhancing service quality and avoiding tariff hikes, BSNL is strategically placed to retain and grow its market share while offering cutting-edge solutions to its subscribers.
