In the current year’s budget, the central government allocated over Rs 82,000 crore to revive BSNL. This substantial funding aims to enhance the telecom company’s infrastructure and support the rollout of 4G and 5G technology developed entirely in India. This strategic move is expected to pose a significant challenge to private telecom operators in the future. As BSNL enhances its services, private companies may need to maintain their average revenue per user to avoid substantial financial losses.
Surge in BSNL’s User Base
BSNL Andhra Pradesh reported a record activation of over two lakh new SIMs in the last 30 days. This trend of increasing subscribers is not limited to Andhra Pradesh but is also evident in various telecom circles across India. In response to revised tariff plans by private telecom companies, users have initiated a social media campaign to switch to BSNL. The state-owned company is also organizing camps in different cities to facilitate SIM card porting, contributing to its growing user base.
Conclusion
With the imminent launch of its 5G services and significant government support, BSNL is poised to enhance its position in the Indian telecom sector. The increase in subscribers and the strategic investments in infrastructure highlight BSNL’s potential to compete effectively with private telecom companies, offering consumers more options and driving technological advancements in the industry.
