Tata Motors is set to launch the electric version of its popular Punch micro-SUV.
Business strategy
This comes after the successful debut of Tiago EV earlier in September.
The strategy is plain and simple- to retain its dominance in EV space.
It is currently enjoying the view from the top with the Nexon EV and the Tigor EV occupying a market share of more than 80%.
After Punch electric is launched in 2023, the carmaker will have a total of 4 EVs in its portfolio, each of which caters to different segments.
Punch EV- Medium range
It will be slotted between Tigor EV and Nexon EV Prime.
Like other Tata EVs, the Punch EV will continue to utilize the Ziptron powertrain.
It will come with two battery pack options, medium range and long range.
For the medium range EV, the power output and range could be similar to that of Tigor EV which is equipped with a 26-kWh battery pack, mated to a 75 PS electric motor.
Torque output is 170 Nm.
Punch EV- Long range
It will closely match the specs of Nexon EV Prime which has a 30.2 kWh battery pack that sends power to a 129 PS electric motor.
Torque output is at 245 Nm.
Hardware configuration is also expected to be similar with adjustable regenerative braking and IP67-rated water and dust proof battery pack.
Platform
Punch EV will be the first electric car to be based on Tata’s ALFA platform.
The first car to utilize it was the Altroz.
ALFA offers versatility, with capabilities to support multiple body styles and powertrains including electric ones.
Users can expect better driving dynamics compared to other Tata EVs.
Features, specs
The exterior will be updated to match the signature styling seen with other Tata electric cars.
Interiors will have a lighter color theme with signature blue highlights on the AC vents and blue stitching on the seats.
Top-spec variants will likely get leatherette upholstery.
