When it comes to Tata Nano, which is Ratan Tata’s dream to offer a car to middle-class families at the price of a two wheeler.

Tata Nano Can Be Re-Launched As Electric Car In 2023: 200 Kms Expected Range In A Single Charge!

This brainchild of Ratan Tata’s vision was first time launched as Tata Nano in 2008.

It stayed in production till 2018 before being axed. Even after its discontinuation, it still has immense brand recall.

The same will be utilized by Tata Motors in the near future as a recent report claims that Tata Motors is reviving the Nano project back from the dead.

Interestingly, this time, it will be launched in the form of an electric vehicle.

Return Of Tata Nano EV

So far, Tata Motors has proven to be No 1 electric car maker in India.

Considering the total EV sales accounted for in the country, Tata has occupied over 80% of market share.

Presently, the car maker offers Nexon EV, Tigor EV and Tiago EV.

In order to maintain the lead in the growing EV segment, Tata Motors plans to launch more electric cars in the near future.

Launch In Micro EV Segment

Considering the increasing popularity of electric vehicles, a new breed of electric cars is most likely to create a lot of buzz in India.

Besides this, this is going to stand in the micro EV segment which is presently booming in China.

For instance, Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is China’s highest-selling car currently.

This is a 2 door micro electric vehicle that is perfect for city excursions and comes at a relatively affordable price point.

Besides Tata, there are a lot of startups jumping on this bandwagon of micro EVs.

This time it is different from the previous attempts, where Tata Motors tried to retrofit electric motors and batteries in the existing Nano.

So, we can expect an all new car, with a modern day design – built as a Born Electric Vehicle.

Tata Nano Electric under Jayem Neo

Tata Motors’ partner Jayem Automotives, had announced an electric version of Nano under the Jayem Neo  brand in the past.

Further, a 400 unit order size of these were planned in 2017 to be used as city taxis for Ola Electric’s fleet operations.

Unfortunately, this project never saw the light of day.

After some time, Jayem Neo electric test mule spotted testing on a public road near Akurdi, Pune in December 2020.

They had managed to cram in 17 kWh of battery in Nano’s small real estate.

Offering a top speed of 85 km/h, it promised 203 km of range from a single charge, certified by ARAI.

So far, Tata Motors have not officially announced the Nano EV.

But, if they consider this idea then it might be one among the 10 new EVs that Tata is planning to launch in the next five years.
