Swiggy, India’s largest on-demand convenience platform, has teamed up with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to introduce “Swiggy Skills.” This initiative seeks to enhance the skill set of individuals and offer employment opportunities within Swiggy’s growing food delivery and quick commerce ecosystem. The initiative was officially launched by Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Hon’ble Minister of State, to support India’s National Logistics Policy and boost growth in the sector.
Addressing the Skills Gap in Food and Retail Sectors
Swiggy Skills aims to address the critical need for a skilled workforce as India’s food and retail sectors rapidly expand. With these sectors contributing around 13% to the country’s GDP, there is a growing demand for trained professionals. According to Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, “As digitization accelerates growth in these sectors, there is an urgent need for a skilled workforce across the entire value chain.”
This program will focus on multiple key areas, including digital skill development, connecting trained youth with job opportunities, direct recruitment, and advanced training. These initiatives will ensure that Swiggy continues to support India’s evolving economy while creating new employment avenues.
Key Focus Areas of Swiggy Skills
- Digital Skill Development:
Swiggy will integrate with MSDE’s Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) to offer online courses, certifications, and training modules to its delivery partners and restaurant staff, enhancing their skills and efficiency. - Connecting Trained Youth with Opportunities:
The initiative will facilitate job placements in operational roles within Swiggy’s ecosystem, ensuring MSDE-trained individuals are connected with employment in retail, logistics, and food businesses. - Direct Recruitment for Swiggy Instamart:
Swiggy plans to recruit 3,000 individuals across India to fill various roles in its quick commerce operations, helping support the company’s rapid expansion. - Advanced Training and Internships:
