Rajasthan’s railway connectivity is set for a major boost as two new Vande Bharat Express trains—between Bikaner-Delhi and Jodhpur-Delhi—will be launched next week. Operated and maintained by the North Western Railway (NWR) zone, these trains promise to deliver faster, more comfortable travel options, cutting journey times by over an hour.

Rajasthan’s First Vande Bharat
The state got its first Vande Bharat Express on April 12, 2023, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Ajmer–Delhi Cantt. train. Notably, it became the world’s first semi-high-speed passenger train to operate on a high-rise overhead electric (OHE) route.
Existing Vande Bharat Services in Rajasthan
Currently, Rajasthan has four operational Vande Bharat services:
- Ajmer–Chandigarh (Train 20977/20978)
- Jodhpur–Sabarmati (Train 12461/12462)
- Udaipur–Jaipur (Train 20979/20980)
- Udaipur–Agra Cantt. (Train 20981/20982)
The upcoming additions will take this number to six, making Rajasthan one of the leading states in India for Vande Bharat connectivity.
Speed and Features
The Vande Bharat Express operates at a maximum speed of 160 kmph, offering premium comfort and safety. Key features include:
- KAVACH safety system
- Automatic plug doors and sealed gangways
- Ergonomic, reclining seats with revolving options in executive class
- Onboard mini pantry with hot cases, deep freezers, and water boilers
- CCTV surveillance, fire detection, and suppression systems

These modern coaches have been designed to enhance both safety and comfort, ensuring a world-class travel experience.
Boost to Rajasthan’s Connectivity and Economy
The new services will strengthen links between Rajasthan and the national capital, encouraging tourism, business travel, and regional trade. With shorter travel times, more comfort, and greater frequency, the expansion of Vande Bharat trains is expected to significantly benefit passengers and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
