Samsung has confirmed its next Galaxy Unpacked event will take place in Korea in July.

First time in homebase Korea

The event is typically known for the company to reveal new smartphones and other gadgets.

This year it is hotly anticipated that the company may unveil its next-generation of foldable phones at the event.

Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event will take place at COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam, the first time it is taking place in Korea.

A rumor from May said this year’s Unpacked could take place on July 26th.

Foldables-themed

The Unpacked event focused on foldables will take place in different cities that “closely align with the designated theme of each event,” Samsung says.

The event is expected to see the launch of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.

TM Roh, president and head of mobile experience (MX) business at Samsung Electronics, said, “Hosting Unpacked in Seoul holds great significance both as it is a city that has become an emerging epicentre of innovation and culture as well as the foldable category.”

Venues in key cities around the world

He also said, “the foldable category embodies Samsung’s philosophy of delivering breakthrough innovation that pushes boundaries to reshape the future of mobile experiences.”

“For over a decade, starting with the very first Unpacked in March 2010 in Las Vegas, Samsung has held Unpacked in key cities around the world including New York, London, Berlin and Barcelona, serving as a global platform to unveil groundbreaking innovations and setting new directions for the mobile industry.

Trend-leading cultural cities

With the upcoming 27th Unpacked in Seoul, Samsung is shifting its direction for Unpacked for foldable devices to focus on different trend-leading cultural cities around the globe that closely align with the designated theme of each event.

This year, Seoul was selected because of its role in influencing global trends with its dynamic culture and innovation, while it also reflects Samsung’s strong confidence in the foldable category,” said Samsung in a statement.

Last year

Regardless of what happens this year, the July timeframe is an earlier one compared to the previous editions.

Last year, it took place in August where Samsung revealed the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4.

However, there are no details yet as to what exactly will be launched.

Expectations

But it is likely that Samsung may bring updates to both of those smartphones this year, the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Tab S9 series along with the next-generation of foldable phones at the event.

The Z Flip 5 is rumored to get a larger outer display, while the Z Fold 5 is reportedly much thinner while folded.
