The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has released updated guidelines for RuPay-exclusive airport lounge access, which introduces tier-based spending criteria for complimentary access. Starting from January 1, 2025, RuPay credit cardholders will be able to enjoy this benefit based on their spending patterns, particularly at the newly opened RuPay lounge in Terminal 3 (T3) of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.

New Rules For Accessing Free Airport Lounge For RuPay Card Users

RuPay’s Exclusive Lounge at IGI Airport T3

RuPay has launched its first exclusive airport lounge at the T3 departure terminal, Departure Pier 11, near Boarding Gate 41. The lounge offers premium services, including an extensive menu of food, drinks, and entertainment, setting it apart from other lounges at IGI Airport. It promises a luxurious and relaxing experience for RuPay cardholders, enhancing their overall travel experience.

Tier-Based Access Guidelines

The new guidelines specify that only select RuPay credit cardholders (Platinum, Select, and higher variants) will be eligible for access to this exclusive lounge. Access will be determined based on spending patterns, managed through the RuPay Benefit Management System (RBMS). Member banks and issuers will share details of eligible cardholders every quarter, ensuring that only those meeting the criteria can avail the lounge’s benefits.

Data Requirements for RuPay Cardholders

To ensure smooth and accurate access to benefits, the NPCI has introduced a new data element requirement (DE 102) in the authorization response message for all RuPay transactions. The length of this data element will be increased from 19 digits to 30 digits, ensuring precise information exchange between issuers and acquirers. This update will ensure that RuPay cardholders can seamlessly enjoy benefits and rewards associated with their cards.

Top Banks Offering Lounge Access

Some of the leading banks offering complimentary airport lounge access through RuPay credit cards include HDFC Bank, SBI Card, ICICI Bank, and IDFC FIRST Bank. Eligible cardholders from these banks can enjoy the premium services of the RuPay-exclusive lounge at Delhi’s T3 terminal, making their travel more comfortable and convenient.
