The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new and improved version of Aadhaar called the Aadhaar PVC card, designed to be more portable, durable, and secure. This compact, pocket-sized card serves as a verifiable identity proof that can be easily carried anywhere. Priced at a nominal ₹50, the Aadhaar PVC card offers a convenient and long-lasting alternative to the traditional paper-based Aadhaar letter, ensuring that citizens have a more robust identity document at hand.

Enhanced Security and Offline Verification Features of the Aadhaar PVC Card
UIDAI highlighted through a tweet that the new card comes “loaded with the latest security features,” and allows instant offline verification using a QR code. The QR code, which can be scanned through the mAadhaar app or an authorized Windows scanner, ensures authenticity without needing an internet connection. This feature enhances ease of use, especially in areas with limited connectivity.
The Aadhaar PVC card incorporates multiple security elements such as a hologram, micro text, ghost image, issue and print dates, and an embossed Aadhaar logo. Additionally, it displays a QR code containing both the holder’s photograph and demographic details. These features collectively make the card tamper-resistant and easy to verify. Even if a user’s mobile number is not registered with Aadhaar, the PVC card can still be ordered using an alternate or non-registered mobile number, ensuring accessibility for everyone.
How to Order and Receive the Aadhaar PVC Card Online
To order the card, users need to visit the UIDAI website, go to the ‘My Aadhaar’ tab, and select ‘Order Aadhaar PVC’. They can enter their Aadhaar number, virtual ID, or enrollment ID, submit an OTP for authentication, preview the card, and complete payment. Once processed, they receive a 28-digit Service Request Number (SRN) and the printed PVC card is dispatched within five working days via speed post.
UIDAI clarified that all forms of Aadhaar—eAadhaar, mAadhaar, Aadhaar letter, and PVC card—are equally valid. The new PVC card simply offers a more convenient and durable way to carry India’s primary identity document, reinforcing UIDAI’s commitment to enhancing user accessibility and security.
Summary:
UIDAI has introduced the Aadhaar PVC card, a compact, durable, and secure identity option priced at ₹50. It features a QR code for offline verification, hologram, micro text, and ghost image. Easily ordered online, it’s delivered within five days. All Aadhaar formats remain valid, ensuring accessibility and authenticity.
