The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is all set to relaunch seaplane and small aircraft services in 2025, marking a major step to revolutionise the way tourists travel across the state. By connecting metro hubs like Mumbai and Pune to hidden gems like Ganpatipule, Koyna Dam, Ujani Dam, and Mandwa, the initiative aims to improve regional connectivity and tourism.

Learning From The Past For A Better Future

This is not the first time Maharashtra has tried seaplane services. A similar attempt in 2014 between Mumbai and Pavana Dam faced setbacks due to regulatory hurdles and partner issues. Another plan between Juhu and Girgaum Chowpatty was stopped due to permission delays. Learning from these, MTDC is now carefully selecting locations with existing infrastructure and working closely with aviation authorities to avoid past mistakes.

Small Planes, Big Impact

The project will deploy small aircraft that carry 9 to 19 passengers and can land on both water and land. This allows access to more remote or natural spots. MTDC is also inviting private aviation companies with prior seaplane experience to make the service more efficient and safe.

More Than Just A Ride

This is more than a transport plan — it is an economic booster. Better connectivity will attract more tourists and help local businesses grow. Plans are also in place to launch aerial sightseeing tours that showcase Maharashtra’s natural beauty, historical landmarks, and cultural richness from above, giving travellers a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Conclusion: A Bold Move Towards Scenic Travel

With thoughtful planning and reliable partnerships, Maharashtra’s 2025 seaplane launch could be a game-changer. It offers quick, scenic, and eco-friendly travel, helping tourism flourish while also setting an example for other states. If successful, it may redefine how people explore the diverse landscapes of India’s most vibrant regions.
