Indian Railways is preparing to introduce a Vande Bharat Sleeper Express between Bengaluru and Mumbai, with the inaugural run proposed for November 1, 2026. The launch date coincides with Karnataka Rajyotsava, the state’s formation day, and could mark a significant improvement in overnight rail connectivity between two of India’s major economic centres.

The proposed service is expected to reduce travel time between the cities from around 22–24 hours on existing direct services to approximately 16 hours. However, the Railway Board is yet to formally confirm the launch date, timetable and ticket prices.

Bengaluru-Mumbai Journey Could Take Just 16 Hours

The proposed Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will cover approximately 1,118 kilometres. It is expected to operate six days a week, providing passengers with a faster overnight alternative to conventional long-distance trains.

According to the proposed schedule, the Bengaluru-to-Mumbai service could depart in the evening and arrive at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) the following afternoon. The return service is also expected to operate overnight.

The precise departure and arrival times remain subject to official confirmation. Passengers should check the final railway timetable before making travel arrangements.

Route Includes Solapur, Pune and Kalyan

The proposed route will connect Bengaluru and Mumbai through parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Expected intermediate stops include Anantapur, Guntakal, Raichur, Kalaburagi, Solapur, Pune and Kalyan. The final list of stations and stoppages will be confirmed by Indian Railways.

For Maharashtra, the proposed inclusion of Solapur, Pune and Kalyan could make the service useful for passengers travelling between these cities and Bengaluru. The train would also provide another option for people travelling for work, education and business.

Expected Ticket Prices and Seating Capacity

The new train is expected to have 16 coaches with a total capacity of 823 berths. The proposed configuration includes 11 AC three-tier coaches, four AC two-tier coaches and one AC first-class coach.

Indicative fares reported in the media range from approximately ₹2,600 to ₹4,250, depending on the class of travel. These are estimates, not confirmed ticket prices.

The final fare structure, reservation opening date and booking availability will depend on the official announcement from Indian Railways.

Modern Facilities for Overnight Travel

The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is designed to offer a more comfortable experience on long-distance journeys. Expected features include fully air-conditioned coaches, improved sleeping berths, automatic doors, CCTV surveillance, individual reading lights, charging points and modern bio-vacuum toilets.

Safety features are expected to include the indigenous KAVACH train protection system and emergency communication facilities.

The train will also offer AC first-class accommodation alongside second-tier and third-tier options, giving passengers different levels of comfort to choose from.

A Major Boost for Rail Connectivity

The proposed service could strengthen transport links between Bengaluru, India’s technology hub, and Mumbai, its financial and commercial centre. A shorter overnight journey would help business travellers, professionals and families save time compared with existing direct train services.

For passengers in Maharashtra, the planned stops at Solapur, Pune and Kalyan could improve access to the new service without requiring travel to Mumbai or Bengaluru to board it.

Although November 1 has been proposed for the inaugural run, regular commercial operations and booking details remain subject to official confirmation.

Summary

The Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is likely to be launched on November 1, 2026, with a proposed journey time of around 16 hours. The train is expected to cover 1,118 kilometres, stop at Solapur, Pune and Kalyan, and offer 823 berths across three AC classes. Indicative fares range from ₹2,600 to ₹4,250, but the Railways has yet to confirm the final schedule, fares and launch details.
