Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai will halt all flight operations for six hours—from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM—on 8 May 2025. The temporary suspension will allow for crucial pre-monsoon runway maintenance.

Both Runways to Be Closed
During this period, both the primary runway (09/27) and secondary runway (14/32) will remain non-operational. The shutdown is part of a larger annual maintenance program designed to prepare the airport for the heavy monsoon rains that typically affect the region from June onwards.
Part of Annual Monsoon Preparedness
Airport authorities confirmed that this maintenance aims to protect the structural integrity of CSMIA’s 1,033-acre airside infrastructure. The work will include surface inspections, minor repairs, and preventive measures to reduce the risk of waterlogging—an issue that has historically impacted flight operations during the rainy season.
Airlines Informed in Advance
A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued six months prior, giving airlines ample time to revise schedules. Thanks to this proactive approach, major disruptions to passengers and flight movements are not expected. Airlines have already adjusted their operations accordingly.
Tech-Driven, Time-Bound Repairs
Advanced monitoring technologies and a team of specialized engineers will ensure that the maintenance is completed within the scheduled window. The six-hour closure was strategically chosen during a lower-traffic period to minimize impact on travelers.
Advisory for Passengers
Passengers flying on 8 May are advised to confirm their flight status with respective airlines. Operations are expected to resume promptly at 5:00 PM.
Safety First
CSMIA officials stated that this scheduled maintenance reinforces their commitment to safe and efficient airport operations. It is part of their annual safety and service excellence strategy, particularly critical during the high-risk monsoon months.
