Maruti Suzuki’s maiden electric SUV, eVitara, is set to rival Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, and MG ZS EV. With a sporty design, advanced features, and a global production strategy, it is expected to launch in India by Summer 2025. Maruti’s Transition to Electric Vehicles

Known for its small and budget-friendly cars, Maruti Suzuki is making its EV debut with the eVitara. The SUV signifies a strategic shift for the brand, aiming to expand its portfolio in India’s growing electric vehicle market.

Design and Features

The eVitara debuted in Milan, Italy, and has been spotted undergoing rigorous testing in India. With its sporty fascia, closed-off grille, muscular LED DRLs, and sloping roofline, the SUV exhibits a modern and aggressive design. Measuring 4,275 mm in length and featuring 19-inch wheels, it offers a commanding road presence. Inside, it boasts high-quality materials, dual free-standing screens, and a floating center console, enhancing the premium experience.

Specifications and Performance

The eVitara is based on a born-electric platform and offers two battery options:

  • 49 kWh Variant: Primarily FWD with a 172 bhp motor.
  • 61 kWh Variant: Includes a dual-motor 4WD option, delivering a combined output of 181 bhp and 300 Nm torque.

The SUV features disc brakes on all wheels and a ground clearance of 180 mm, ensuring a smooth ride across varied terrains.

Strategic Production and Launch Plan

Maruti Suzuki will produce the eVitara in partnership with Toyota, with production commencing in Spring 2025. The SUV will initially launch in Europe and Japan before arriving in India, leveraging a global strategy similar to the Jimny SUV.

Rivaling Competitors in the EV Market

The eVitara will compete with the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. Its advanced features, powerful performance, and global appeal position it as a strong contender in India’s evolving EV segment.
