This year, Maruti Suzuki finally introduced the Jimny, a highly coveted off-road vehicle, to India. It made its debut at the Auto Expo 2023, where reservations for it also became available. Now, the SUV has received more than 15,000 pre-orders.
The SUV helps in tax exemption, despite of extra doors:
In our market, Maruti Suzuki is only offering the five door version of the Jimny, which will be sold through its Nexa showrooms, while the international-spec Jimny is sold in a three door form all over the world. Even with the extra doors, the SUV is still under four meters, making it exempt from some taxes. The Jimny’s extended wheelbase has allowed for more space in the back and a proper boot, giving Indian buyers a sense of practicality.
Zeta and Alpha are the two main trims for the off roader. Seven-inch touchscreens, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, electrically adjustable ORVMs (outside rear view mirrors), six airbags, and electronic stability program (ESP) are all included as standard equipment. The top-spec Alpha comes equipped with a few unique features, such as a nine-inch infotainment system, automatic air conditioning, auto-LED headlights with washer, and cruise control.
More specifications about the Jimmy:
A single 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a 105PS/134Nm rating will power the Jimny made for India. You have the option of either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission, even though a four-wheel drivetrain (4WD) is provided as standard. The most popular variant or transmission choice among the pre-orders has not yet been made public.
By May of this year, Maruti is expected to release the Jimny, with an anticipated starting price of Rs. 10 lakhs (ex-showroom). The current Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha, both of which are scheduled to receive five-door versions soon, will compete with the off-roader.
