Maruti Suzuki is set to introduce a budget-friendly MPV inspired by the Suzuki Spacia by 2026. Priced around Rs 6 lakh, it will feature a 1.2-litre petrol engine with a possible CNG variant. With three rows of seats for seven passengers, the new MPV will compete with the Renault Triber and be sold through Nexa showrooms.

Rising Demand for MPVs in India Multipurpose Vehicles (MPVs) are gaining popularity in India due to their spacious design and ability to carry more passengers. Maruti Suzuki currently offers the Ertiga and XL6, priced at Rs 8.84 lakh and Rs 11.71 lakh respectively. However, the company now aims to introduce a more affordable option to meet the needs of budget-conscious buyers.

Inspired by Suzuki Spacia The new MPV will draw inspiration from the Suzuki Spacia, a compact Japanese ‘kei car’. Unlike the Spacia, which is limited to a 660cc engine, the Indian model will receive significant modifications. Maruti Suzuki plans to increase the vehicle’s size to stay under four meters while accommodating seven passengers in a 2+3+2 seating configuration.

Efficient Engine Options For the Indian market, the MPV is expected to feature a 1.2-litre ISG series petrol engine. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki might introduce a CNG variant, delivering an estimated mileage of around 32 km per kg. These options will ensure a balance between affordability and fuel efficiency.

Targeting Competition The upcoming model, codenamed YDB, will compete directly with the Renault Triber, a popular choice in the budget MPV segment. To maintain its premium appeal, the vehicle will be sold through Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa showrooms, which cater to customers seeking stylish and advanced vehicles.

Expected Launch and Market Impact Maruti Suzuki plans to launch the affordable MPV in 2026. With its competitive pricing, practical design, and fuel-efficient engine, the vehicle is expected to attract significant interest from Indian buyers. The move highlights Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to expanding its presence in the growing MPV segment and providing value-driven solutions for families and large groups.
