Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to shake up the compact SUV market with the launch of the all-new Escudo on September 3, 2025. Set to be sold via the Arena dealerships, Escudo aims to position itself above Brezza and Ertiga while targeting rivals like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

Maruti Suzuki All Set To Launch A New Compact SUV: Escudo, A Creta-Rival

A New Flagship for Arena Dealerships

Unlike the Grand Vitara (sold via Nexa), the Maruti Escudo will be positioned as the flagship offering for Arena showrooms, ensuring greater availability. With Arena’s widespread network, Escudo’s accessibility could be a game-changer, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. Expected to be priced between ₹10 lakh to ₹15 lakh, it undercuts many Creta/Seltos variants.

Design & Styling: Rugged Yet Refined

Spy images reveal that the Escudo draws heavily from the Grand Vitara and the upcoming eVitara EV. The front fascia includes LED DRLs, a trapezoidal air dam, and a bold grille, while the rear features sharp LED tail lamps, roof spoiler, and a full-width LED light bar. The squared-off wheel arches and sporty alloys lend it a muscular SUV stance.

Interior & Features: Premium Touches

Inside, the Escudo will borrow several features from the Grand Vitara, including:

  • 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • 7-inch TFT multi-information display
  • Head-up display
  • Sunroof
  • Wireless charging
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Automatic climate control
  • Air purifier

The safety suite is expected to mirror that of Grand Vitara, with multiple airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors/camera.

Powertrain & Variants: Hybrid and CNG on Offer

The Escudo will offer multiple engine options:

  • 1.5L mild hybrid (103 PS / 139 Nm) with 5MT & 6AT, available in 2WD and AllGrip 4WD
  • 1.5L strong hybrid (combined 115.56 PS) with e-CVT
  • CNG variant likely to follow

Conclusion: A Strong Compact SUV Contender

With spacious dimensions, affordable variants, Arena-wide availability, and robust hybrid and CNG options, Maruti Escudo is well-equipped to challenge Creta’s dominance. The SUV combines feature-rich interiors with Maruti’s trusted engineering—offering a compelling package for urban and semi-urban buyers alike.
