In the most recent round of the Global NCAP crash tests, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga received a terrible 1-star rating.
Despite being sold in South Africa, the tested model was made in India.
In 2019, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga received three stars in the Global NCAP test.
The 2024 model did not fare well in the upgraded evaluations because of the tighter protocols that were implemented in July 2022.
Adult Occupant Safety:
A 69.5 percent score of 23.63/34 points was attained.
The frontal, side, and side pole impacts of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga were evaluated.
The head and neck protection of the driver and passenger was evaluated as “good” in the frontal crash test.
The passenger’s chest was graded as “good,” but the driver’s chest was protected only somewhat.
The knees of the driver and passenger were considered “marginal” because they might come into contact with potentially dangerous objects behind the dashboard.
It was decided that the driver’s and passenger’s tibia protection was “adequate.”
The footwell section received a “unstable” rating.
The bodyshell’s assessment of “unstable” means that it cannot withstand further loadings.
In the side impact test, the chest was assessed as having “adequate” protection, while the head, abdomen, and pelvis obtained “good” protection.
Because curtain airbags were not available, the side pole impact test could not be carried out.
Child Safety Measures:
A 39.77 percent score, or 19.40 out of 49 points, was attained.
The ISOFIX mounts and top restraints were utilized to install the child seats forward-facing for the 3-year-old and 18-month-old dummies.
The 3-year-old dummy’s seat effectively shielded its head from impact during the frontal impact test, but its neck and chest received just minimal protection.
The 18-month-old dummy’s neck and chest were not well protected due to the rapid deceleration.
Throughout the side impact test, both dummies were fully protected.
Features for Safety on the Africa-Spec Ertiga:
The Ertiga’s base model underwent testing.
Although side and curtain airbags were absent, the safety equipment included two front airbags.
fitted with three-point seatbelts up front that have force limiters and pre-tensioners.
Two 3-point seatbelts for the second row, along with a center 2-point lap belt, and two 3-point seatbelts for the third row were the available options for rear seatbelts. There were ISOFIX child seat anchors available.
The higher-end models come with an extra pair of side airbags. Even in the top-of-the-line models, there is no active safety technology for pedestrian safety.
The passenger seatbelt pretensioner was not operating as intended.
The vehicle had a low crash test score because the passenger airbag could not be detached for a rear-facing kid seat.
India-specific Ertiga Cost and Competitors:
The Maruti Ertiga is priced between Rs 8.69 lakh to Rs 13.03 lakh (ex-showroom, all of India).
The Kia Carens and Renault Triber are among the competitors.
It is regarded as a reasonably priced substitute for the Maruti Invicto, Toyota Innova Hycross, and Toyota Innova Crysta.
