The new rear-wheel drive or RWD variant of the second generation Thar by the auto giant Mahindra has become more affordable, with the vehicle starting at an introductory price of even below Rs 10 lakh.
According to the latest update, Mahindra’s new, stripped-down avatar will be available at an ex-showroom price of Rs 9.99 lakh and the prices will go up for the higher variants.
Just like the four wheel drive variants of Thar, the Thar RWD will be made available in Indian markets with petrol as well as diesel engines, with an underlined focus of changes made under the vehicle’s skin, stated sources.
Regarding the pricing of the new Thar, the AX (O) RWD variant with diesel MT, hard top, will cost Rs 9.99 lakh. The LX RWD with diesel MT, hard top, will amount to Rs 10.99 lakh and the LX RWD with petrol MT, hard top, will cost Rs 13.49 lakh in India.
For the same variants, the Mahindra Thar 4WD will cost Rs 13.59 lakh, Rs 14.28 lakh and Rs 14.28 lakh, respectively.
At a lower price point, the Thar RWD has now become more accessible to a wider range of buyers. The vehicle now has an advanced electronic brake locking differential system.
It offers a D11 CRDe engine that produces 117 BHP and a torque of 300 Nm, along with manual transmission. The model also comes with a petrol motor having a mStallion 150 TGDi engine that produces 150 BHP and a torque of 320 Nm, paired with an automatic transmission.
According to Vijay Nakra, President of the Automotive Division of Mahindra & Mahindra, the company has made Thar more accessible to the ones who are willing to live the ‘Thar life’, by offering the new RWD variants.
“We are confident the new range of the Thar will further spark the thrill to explore the impossible and add new enthusiasts to the Thar lifestyle,” Nakra added.
