Mahindra’s Thar has long enjoyed a cult following among offroading enthusiasts, but its practicality has often been a point of contention. The absence of rear doors and a full rear bench has limited its appeal for those seeking both adventure and family-friendly utility. Enter the Mahindra Thar Roxx, the brand’s new 5-door version that promises to deliver on both fronts. Unveiled with much anticipation, the Thar Roxx brings several updates, ensuring it meets the diverse needs of its audience.

Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-Door Revealed: Check Specs, Pics & More

Design: Bold and Unconventional

The Mahindra Thar Roxx introduces some notable design changes that set it apart from the 3-door model. One of the most striking features is the triangular rear quarter glass, which accommodates a thicker B-pillar. While opinions are divided on this design choice, it does give the Thar Roxx a unique silhouette, particularly when the vehicle is in topless mode. Another significant change is the slanted roof, which has sparked mixed reactions online. Additionally, the Thar Roxx comes with new alloy wheels and square wheel arches, replacing the circular ones from the previous model, giving it a more rugged appearance.

Engine and Gearbox: Power and Versatility

Under the hood, the Mahindra Thar Roxx offers two engine choices—a 2.0L turbo-petrol and a 2.2L turbo-diesel. The petrol variant will be available in two power outputs, 160 Hp and 170 Hp, while the diesel engine will also come in two states of tune, 132 Hp and 171 Hp. Customers can choose between a 6-speed manual transmission (MT) or a 6-speed automatic transmission (AT), providing versatility for different driving preferences.

Offroad Gear: Advanced Capabilities

The Thar Roxx doesn’t just add doors; it enhances its offroading prowess with advanced gear. It features a more sophisticated suspension setup, derived from the Scorpio-N, with FSD shock absorbers and a penta-link setup at the rear. The SUV also includes an electronic brake-locking differential at the front and a mechanically locking rear differential, ensuring optimal traction in challenging conditions. Other offroad features include a low-ratio transfer case, offroad crawl control, and intelli-turn assist. The vehicle boasts a 23.6-degree breakover angle, a 41.3-degree approach angle, and a 36.1-degree departure angle, along with a water-wading depth of 650 mm, making it a formidable off-roader.

Conclusion

The Mahindra Thar Roxx is a significant evolution of the beloved Thar, combining practicality with rugged offroad capabilities. With its new design, powerful engine options, and advanced offroad gear, it stands ready to win over both adventure seekers and families looking for a versatile vehicle. The official launch is just days away, and the Thar Roxx is already generating excitement among enthusiasts and potential buyers alike.
