The much-anticipated Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway is in its final stage of completion, bringing major relief to daily commuters and long-distance travelers. Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) confirmed that only minor works remain, including finishing touches, signages, and monopole installations. Once complete, the expressway will be opened to the public after a short trial run and formal inauguration.

Completion and Inauguration Timeline
Sources familiar with the project revealed that the expressway will be completed by the first or second week of December 2025. The government plans to conduct a trial run to ensure smooth traffic flow before the official launch. The inauguration is expected soon after, marking a key milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure growth.
A 63-Kilometre Engineering Marvel
The Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway, officially designated as National Expressway 6 (NE-6), spans 63 kilometres and connects Lucknow, Unnao, and Kanpur. The six-lane stretch is also expandable to eight lanes in the future to accommodate increasing traffic volumes.
Running parallel to the existing NH-27, the new expressway shortens the route between Lucknow and Kanpur — reducing the distance from 85 km to 63 km and the travel time from nearly 3 hours to just 35–40 minutes.
Route Details and Toll Plazas
The expressway will start near Shaheed Path in Lucknow, passing through Bani, Kantha, and Amarsas, before connecting to Azad Marg and Udyog Path in Kanpur.
A total of five toll plazas are being constructed at Miranpur Pinwat, Khandedev, Bani (Lucknow), and Lalganj (Unnao) to manage operations efficiently.
The government has earmarked ₹800 crore in compensation for land acquisition, covering 42 villages across Lucknow and Unnao districts.
Transforming Connectivity in Uttar Pradesh
Once operational, the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway will become a vital link for both commercial and passenger transport, boosting trade, tourism, and industrial activity in the Awadh region. With faster travel, reduced congestion, and enhanced logistics efficiency, the expressway is set to redefine regional mobility in Uttar Pradesh’s urban corridor.
