India has increased the price of domestic LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) cylinders by ₹60, reflecting the growing impact of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East on global energy markets. The price revision came into effect on March 7, 2026, after oil marketing companies adjusted rates in response to rising fuel costs worldwide.

LPG Gas Cylinder Price Increased By Rs 60 Due To Iran War

The hike affects the widely used 14.2-kg household cooking gas cylinder, which is the primary cooking fuel for millions of Indian households.

New LPG Prices in Major Cities

After the latest revision, the price of domestic LPG cylinders has increased across major metropolitan cities.

Approximate new rates include:

  • Delhi: about ₹913 per cylinder
  • Mumbai: around ₹912.50
  • Kolkata: about ₹939
  • Chennai: roughly ₹928.50

The price difference between cities depends on state taxes and local levies, which influence the final retail price.

Commercial Cylinders Also Costlier

Along with household cylinders, commercial LPG cylinders used by restaurants and businesses have also seen a sharp increase.

  • Commercial LPG price increase: about ₹115 per 19-kg cylinder

This rise could impact restaurants, street food vendors, hotels and other small businesses that depend heavily on LPG for daily operations.

Why LPG Prices Are Rising

The price hike is largely linked to global energy market disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

The war involving Iran, the United States and Israel has disrupted oil and gas shipments through critical maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply normally passes.

As a result:

  • Global crude oil prices have surged.
  • Shipping costs and energy supply risks have increased.
  • Import-dependent countries like India are facing higher fuel costs.

Since India imports a significant portion of its LPG supply, global price fluctuations directly affect domestic retail rates.

Impact on Households

The ₹60 increase may appear small, but it can add pressure to household budgets, especially for middle-class and lower-income families.

However, the government has clarified that subsidised LPG connections under schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana remain protected, ensuring that poorer households continue receiving financial support for cooking fuel.

Government Monitoring Supply Situation

Officials have assured that India currently has adequate LPG stocks, and there is no immediate shortage of cooking gas despite global disruptions.

Authorities and oil companies are closely monitoring the situation in West Asia to ensure supply stability and prevent further shocks to domestic energy prices.
