In a major step toward digitizing India’s highway infrastructure, Jio Payments Bank Ltd (JPBL) has won a contract to implement the FASTag Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)-based Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collection system at two key toll plazas—Shahjahanpur and Manoharpura—on the Gurugram-Jaipur route.

Jio Payments Wins Digital Toll Collection Contract On Gurugram - Jaipur High

The award comes under the pilot MLFF project by Indian Highways Management Company Ltd (IHMCL), which aims to eliminate manual toll booths and introduce seamless toll collection through camera-based number plate recognition.

What Is MLFF?

The Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system is a cutting-edge tolling technology that allows vehicles to pay tolls automatically without stopping. Using ANPR cameras, the system identifies vehicles by their license plates and charges tolls digitally via linked payment accounts, such as FASTag or other digital wallets.

This technology not only reduces traffic congestion but also enhances transparency and efficiency in toll collection.

Jio Payments Bank’s Growing Role in Digital Infrastructure

According to Jio Financial Services, the new project marks a significant milestone for JPBL, which already manages toll operations at 11 highway plazas as an acquirer bank.

With the addition of the two MLFF projects, JPBL now handles two of the five MLFF bids awarded nationwide, underscoring its growing role in the country’s smart mobility and digital payments ecosystem.

A Step Toward Smart Mobility

Vinod Easwaran, Managing Director & CEO of Jio Payments Bank, said the move is aligned with the company’s mission to digitize everyday payments and build smart financial infrastructure at scale.

“By leveraging the synergy of our digital capabilities within the Jio ecosystem, we are actively building capabilities to participate in India’s evolving mobility ecosystem,” Easwaran said.

Driving India’s Digital Highway Revolution

As India transitions to AI-driven tolling and contactless travel, Jio’s entry into MLFF systems positions it as a key player in the future of intelligent transportation payments. With this milestone, JPBL not only strengthens its leadership in digital payments but also contributes to India’s broader vision of smart, seamless, and tech-enabled mobility.
