After making strides in cements, paints, and ports, JSW Group is now shifting gears to the automotive sector. Parth Jindal, MD of JSW Cement and JSW Paints, revealed plans for a Rs 10-12 lakh electric vehicle (EV) and deeper investments in JSW MG Motor India.

Affordable EV in the Pipeline
JSW is currently developing an EV smaller than the Windsor, priced between Rs 10-12 lakh, aiming to penetrate the mass market. Alongside, the company is preparing to launch a larger SUV with EV, hybrid, and ICE variants, targeting broader consumer preferences.
Partnership with Global OEMs
While MG remains JSW’s key partner, the group is also collaborating with a Chinese OEM for technology in its JSW-badged cars. The first product launch is slated for early 2027. A commercial vehicle (CV) project is also in progress, with a global OEM licence secured. Production is expected to begin in the first half of 2026, though the JSW brand won’t appear on CVs.
Rs 10,000 Crore Investment and New Manufacturing Hub
JSW is investing Rs 10,000 crore via its promoter entity to establish a new factory in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for both commercial and passenger vehicles. The company is also evaluating opportunities to manufacture EV batteries, further strengthening its automotive footprint.
Tackling Range Anxiety and Localisation
The company claims that range anxiety is reducing, thanks to better technology. The Windsor EV offers 400+ km range with a 53kWh battery and 330 km with a 38kWh variant. Localisation efforts have improved drastically—from 27% at Windsor’s launch to a projected 85% by mid-2026, excluding only motors and battery cells.
Towards EV Market Leadership
More than 80% of JSW MG Motor’s sales are now EVs, positioning the brand to soon become India’s top EV player. With Windsor priced at Rs 13-18 lakh, the group is now aiming to hit the mass-market sweet spot with a more affordable EV offering.
Summasry
JSW Group is developing a Rs 10-12 lakh electric vehicle and planning a Rs 10,000 crore investment in its automotive venture. With partnerships, localisation drives, and a new manufacturing plant in Sambhajinagar, JSW is aggressively scaling its EV and commercial vehicle footprint. Over 80% of current sales are electric, with aspirations to lead India’s EV market.
