Several iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro users have reported significant battery drain issues, according to widespread complaints on platforms like Reddit, MacRumors, and Apple Support Communities. Many users have observed that their phones are losing battery power rapidly, even when not in use, leading to growing frustration among early adopters of Apple’s latest models.

iPhone 16 Users Facing Battery Drain Due To iOS 18 Update

Excessive Battery Drain in iPhone 16 Models

A notable number of iPhone 16 owners have taken to online forums to share their experiences with battery performance. Users are noticing drastic drops in battery percentage, sometimes as much as 40% to 50%, without heavy usage. For instance, MacRumors reader T1aaj mentioned that their iPhone 16 Pro drops to 60% from 100% halfway through the day, despite minimal usage. Another user, JulianL, highlighted that their 16 Pro Max delivers only 50-60% of the battery life they were accustomed to on their older iPhone 15 Pro Max, which was running iOS 18.

Standby Mode Issues Highlight Deeper Problems

In many cases, users reported battery drain occurring even while their phones were in standby mode. One Reddit user, huanbrother, noted excessive background activities draining the iPhone 16 Pro’s battery, despite turning off the Always On Display (AOD) and limiting ProMotion. Another user, kirbysmartdawg, echoed similar concerns, stating that their phone lost battery every five minutes while in standby mode.

Older iPhones Running iOS 18 Also Affected

The issue is not limited to iPhone 16 models. Users with older iPhones running iOS 18 have also experienced battery life problems. A long-running complaint thread on MacRumors started during the iOS 18 beta has seen a fresh wave of comments following the launch of iOS 18 and the iPhone 16 series. Even with features like ProMotion and background app refresh turned off, users are struggling to maintain stable battery life.

Attempts to Resolve the Issue

Impacted users have tried a variety of troubleshooting methods, including turning off background activities, disabling cellular data, and even factory resetting their iPhones. While some have reported slight improvements, many continue to experience battery drain issues. Software updates like iOS 18.0.1 and iOS 18.1 beta have shown mixed results, with some users seeing marginal improvements, but others finding no change in battery performance.

Awaiting Apple’s Response

As the number of complaints grows, speculation about an underlying bug in iOS 18 intensifies. Users are hopeful that Apple will address these battery issues in future software updates, as the current fixes have proven insufficient for many. For now, the excessive battery drain remains a widespread concern among iPhone 16 and iOS 18 users.
