The iPhone 16 series has recently been the subject of leaks, just a few months after the launch of the iPhone 15 series.
Reports indicate that Apple is considering several design alterations, signaling a departure from the conventional iPhone design introduced with the iPhone 12.
iPhone 16 Leaks Suggest Several Design Changes
Although the iPhone 15 series introduced a subtle curve and abandoned the sharp-edged frame, it largely maintains the appearance of the iPhone 12 series, albeit with the inclusion of USB-C. Looking ahead to the iPhone 16, MacRumors suggests potential changes in camera and button layout, including the addition of a camera shutter button to the device.
The report, based on insights into early pre-production designs for the foundational iPhone 16, internally dubbed “DeLorean,” has generated mockups illustrating potential design variations.
One mockup, presented in yellow, showcases a distinct camera layout reminiscent of the iPhone X, accompanied by a unified volume rocker and an Action button. The second mockup, in pink, retains the Action button but separates the volume rocker into individual buttons. The third mockup, in Midnight Black, features an enlarged Action button and introduces a new Capture button, expected to be capacitive instead of mechanical.
iPhone 16 Leaks Reveal New Capture Button For iPhone
In the side profile, the report reveals a new Capture button, developed under the codename “Project Nova,” incorporating a force sensor alongside “tact-switching” functionality. While the exact purpose of this button is not specified, its name and position suggest it could serve as a camera shutter button.
As a consequence of placing the Capture button on the right side, the mmWave antenna for US-centric iPhone models is relocated to the left. The report notes that, in case of issues, there is an alternative hardware configuration without the Capture button that Apple could revert to.
The report emphasizes that the front of the iPhone 16 exhibits no discernible changes. As the iPhone 16 is still in its early development stages, various design paths are possible for Apple. Nevertheless, there is anticipation for a distinctive-looking iPhone in the coming year.
