Apple is set to expand its manufacturing base in India by producing two models from its 2023 iPhone series in the country.

iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus Will Be Made In India By Tata Group!

As per the latest reports, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be assembled by Tata Group, a prominent Indian conglomerate.

iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus To Be Made in India

The decision to manufacture iPhones in India is part of Apple’s strategy to diversify its supply chain and reduce dependence on China. Geopolitical tensions and the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have highlighted the need for such diversification. India, with its large and growing consumer market, offers an attractive alternative manufacturing location for Apple.

TrendForce’s report indicates that Tata Group will initially receive smaller orders for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, indicating that India may be included in the first wave of shipments for these models. This move highlights Apple’s confidence in the capabilities of Tata Group as an assembler. It is worth noting that Tata Group has already acquired Wistron’s iPhone manufacturing plant in Bengaluru, further strengthening its position in the Indian market.

The entry of Tata Group into the iPhone assembly business also suggests that another assembler, Wistron, may be exiting the Indian market. This could be a result of Apple’s efforts to streamline its manufacturing operations in the country and consolidate its partnerships with trusted and capable manufacturers.

Tata Group To Join Foxconn, Luxshare, Pegatron

With this development, Tata Group will join the ranks of Foxconn, Luxshare, and Pegatron as an iPhone assembler in India. The report by TrendForce highlights that while Tata’s share of assembly orders for various iPhone models is currently only 5% for 2023, it reflects an accelerating trend of Apple’s production relocation.

By expanding its manufacturing operations in India, Apple can benefit from various advantages offered by the country. These include a large pool of skilled labor, favorable government policies, cost efficiencies, and proximity to a significant consumer market. Furthermore, local manufacturing allows Apple to comply with Indian regulations and fulfill the government’s “Make in India” initiative.

The move towards manufacturing iPhones in India aligns with Apple’s broader goal of creating a robust and resilient supply chain. It helps mitigate risks associated with geopolitical tensions and disruptions in the global supply chain. Additionally, it allows Apple to cater to the specific needs and preferences of Indian consumers by offering locally manufactured products.
