iOS 17.1.2 Update Released: iPhone Users Are Facing These Major Issues (Everything You Need To Know)

What does this update provide? Read on to find out all the details!

Apple Releases 17.1.2 Update for iPhones and iPads

Following closely on the heels of the iOS 17.1.1 bug fix update, these latest releases are accessible to users with compatible iPhones and iPads through the Settings app, under General > Software Update.

The primary focus of iOS 17.1.2, as outlined in Apple’s release notes, revolves around essential security improvements, particularly addressing vulnerabilities that might have been exploitable in previous iOS versions.

Despite these enhancements, reports have surfaced indicating certain issues with the recent update. According to a GottaBeMobile report, iOS 17.1.2 is presenting challenges for some iPhone users, including both newly identified problems and persisting issues from previous iOS 17 versions.

The reported problems associated with iOS 17.1.2 encompass rapid battery depletion, Bluetooth complications, Wi-Fi issues, challenges with Exchange, and difficulties with both first and third-party apps.

The update is compatible with various devices, including iPhone XS and later, iPad Pro 12.9-inch 2nd generation and later, iPad Pro 10.5-inch, iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 6th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later.

Apple Identifies Vulnerabilities in Processing Web Content

Apple has also identified vulnerabilities related to the processing of web content, which could potentially result in the disclosure of sensitive information. There are suggestions that these issues might have been exploited in versions of iOS preceding iOS 16.7.1.

The first security concern, identified as CVE-2023-42916 and documented in WebKit Bugzilla as 265041, involves an out-of-bounds read. Apple has addressed this by enhancing input validation. The second vulnerability, detailed in WebKit Bugzilla as 265067 and assigned CVE-2023-42917, relates to a memory corruption vulnerability that could lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple has mitigated this by implementing improved locking mechanisms.

Apple strongly advises users to promptly update their devices to iOS 17.1.2 to ensure they benefit from the latest security enhancements and safeguard their devices from potential exploits.
