In a major step towards transforming India’s postal ecosystem, India Post will soon offer time-guaranteed delivery for mails and parcels. Customers will have access to 24-hour and 48-hour delivery timelines for letters and next-day delivery for parcels, ensuring speed and reliability similar to private courier companies.

The service, set to launch in January 2026, is expected to boost customer confidence and enhance India Post’s competitiveness while capitalising on its unmatched last-mile network that reaches even the most remote corners of the country.
Scindia Highlights North-East Development
Union Communications and DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia made the announcement while outlining the one-year achievements of his ministries. He highlighted significant progress in connectivity and infrastructure across the North-Eastern region, stating that all N-E states will be connected by rail by 2029.
“The North-East is emerging as the gateway of India rather than being the last frontier,” Scindia said, citing rapid growth in airports, roads, and digital connectivity.
Key Developments in the North-East
- Air Connectivity: The number of airports in the region has grown from nine to 17, including four in Arunachal Pradesh.
- Rail Connectivity: All eight states in the North-East are expected to be connected by 2029.
- Major Projects: Progress continues on the Kaladan and India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway projects, strengthening trade and mobility links.
- Investment Boost: The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav (Dec 2024) generated investment leads worth ₹2,326 crore, while the North-East Banker’s Conclave resulted in 51 new bank branches and expanded MSME lending.
Economic and Cultural Growth
Scindia described the North-East as a key driver of India’s economic growth, pointing to:
- Higher decadal GDP growth than the national average
- A 70% young population (below 28 years)
- Strong literacy and cultural capital
The Ministry of DoNER also achieved a record expenditure of ₹3,447.71 crore in FY 2024–25, marking a 74.4% year-on-year increase and over 200% growth in three years.
A Unified Brand Northeast Vision
Alongside infrastructure and investment, the ministry is promoting the region’s unique identity through a “Brand Northeast” initiative, aimed at boosting tourism and cultural awareness across India and abroad.
India Post’s guaranteed delivery initiative and the government’s North-East development strategy together highlight a broader national focus on speed, connectivity, and inclusivity — making India more connected, competitive, and future-ready.
