In a bold move to dominate the premium SUV segment under ₹30 lakh, Hyundai is preparing a powerful new 7-seater hybrid SUV, internally codenamed Ni1i. It will be positioned between the Alcazar and Tucson, directly targeting rivals like the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari.
Set to be manufactured at Hyundai’s new Talegaon plant, this model marks the company’s entry into the strong hybrid SUV segment—a significant shift in India’s fast-evolving mobility landscape.

A New Hybrid Powertrain for India
The standout feature of the Ni1i SUV will be its strong hybrid powertrain. Hyundai is reportedly developing a locally engineered hybrid setup that pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a large battery pack. This makes it a practical, fuel-efficient choice for Indian consumers looking to switch from pure petrol or diesel.
Bigger, Bolder & More Premium Than Alcazar
Sources suggest the upcoming SUV could take design inspiration from the long-wheelbase version of the Tucson sold in China, which measures 4.68 metres in length. That would make the Ni1i roomier than the Alcazar and elevate Hyundai’s presence in the premium SUV category.
This hybrid SUV is expected to feature:
- Three-row seating
- Advanced connectivity features
- Modern design cues
- Enhanced fuel efficiency without compromising performance
Part of Hyundai’s Larger Game Plan
Hyundai’s SUV strategy is firing on all cylinders:
- Next-gen Creta (SX3) in the works for a 2027 launch
- Creta Electric receiving a mid-cycle refresh
- Talegaon plant ramping up to produce the second-gen Venue and the new hybrid SUV
With EV and hybrid options expanding rapidly, Hyundai is clearly eyeing market leadership in the sub-₹30 lakh segment—balancing innovation, efficiency, and aspirational value.
