Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has released two teaser videos of its upcoming scooter which is speculated to be a sporty offering in the 125 cc segment.
What could it be?
The teasers do not reveal much but aggressive design cues with sharp lines and an edgy front apron are clear to see.
A glimpse of the headlamp and surrounding body panels imply that it could be based on the existing Dio.
However, since Honda has just launched the H-Smart version of the Dio, the upcoming scooter could be a different one altogether.
Youthful appeal
The Honda Dio has been on sale in the domestic market for over two decades and it has been well received by young customers.
The company has always propped the Dio as Honda’s fun and youthful product and it could do well as a 125 product as well.
Will be automatic
The second teaser features sounds of a silent start system, followed by a deeper exhaust note normally heard from a Honda scooter.
A CVT transmission is also audible, confirming that the product will be an automatic scooter.
Engine
With all the little cues in the teaser videos, many are speculating that the product could be a version of the Dio.
If that is the case, Honda could use the same 124cc engine from the Activa 125. This engine develops 8 BHP and 10.3 Nm.
Possible competition
It is expected to compete against TVS Ntorq 125 and Suzuki Avenis and possibly even rivaling the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Aprilia Scooters.
