A Strategic Move Toward Electrification
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has marked its entry into the electric two-wheeler segment with two distinctive models: the Activa e: and QC1. These launches represent significant steps in Honda’s global electrification strategy, bringing their worldwide EV portfolio to 13 vehicles. The move aligns with the company’s ambitious goal of introducing 30 electric vehicles globally and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
Activa e: Carrying Forward a Legacy
The Activa e: builds upon the trusted Activa platform while embracing electric innovation. While maintaining the fundamental frame and body of its ICE counterpart, the electric version showcases a refreshed design philosophy. The scooter features a minimalist approach with an LED headlamp setup, integrated turn indicators, and a distinctive LED DRL.
Performance-wise, the Activa e: impresses with its dual 1.5 kWh swappable battery configuration. The wheel-side electric motor delivers 4.2 kW (5.6 bhp) of standard power, upgradeable to 6.0 kW (8 bhp). Riders can expect a range of 102 kilometers on a single charge, with three riding modes – Standard, Sport, and Econ – to suit different needs.
QC1: Tailored for Urban Mobility
Set for launch in spring 2025, the QC1 is designed specifically for the Indian market with urban commuting in mind. While sharing design elements with the Activa e:, it distinguishes itself through unique features and a different powertrain setup. The scooter employs a fixed 1.5 kWh battery pack with a convenient charging socket located above the floorboard.
The QC1’s compact in-wheel motor generates 1.2 kW (1.6 bhp) of power, expandable to 1.8 kW (2.4 bhp). With an 80-kilometer range, it caters perfectly to daily city commutes. The scooter comes equipped with modern features including a 5-inch LCD instrument panel, under-seat storage, and a USB Type-C socket, making it a practical choice for urban riders.
These launches demonstrate Honda’s commitment to sustainable mobility while addressing the growing demand for electric vehicles in the Indian market.
