As we know, the American Multinational technology giant, Google, plans to ship more than 10 million Pixel phones this year.
In order to achieve this, Alphabet Inc’s Google has told suppliers to start making its Pixel smartphones in India by next quarter at the earliest, as per the media report on Thursday.
Pixel Smartphones Manufacturing In India
Reportedly, the search engine major is all set to start manufacturing smartphones in India.
According to the company, its flagship Pixel 8 will be available in 2024 as it said last October.
In the meantime, the company plans to focus more on a key growth market.
This latest move by Google is expected to help the company diversify its supply chain away from China, media reported, citing a person with direct knowledge of the matter.
The coming weeks may witness the tech giant preparing its production lines for its high-end Pixel 8 Pro smartphones.
Expanding Authorized Google Service Centers In India
The company will start producing phones in the April-June quarter, the report said, citing multiple sources.
Although, there is no information about how many phones Google plans to manufacture in India.
Also, there is no clarity if the phones will be for sale in the country or for exports, as the company did not share any information regarding the same.
The first set of India-made Google Pixel 8 devices will debut in 2024, said Rick Osterloh, senior vice president, devices and services, had announced in October at the ninth edition of the Google for India event.
The search engine provider Google has partnered with international and domestic manufacturers to produce the device in India.
Osterloh said, “This is an early step towards expanding the production here to meet the local demand for Pixel devices.”
He further added, India is a priority market for Pixel and the company is working to expand authorized Google service centers in India to improve after-sales services.
In the meantime, Google Pixel Fold 2 leaks are circling around.
The people who have witnessed it find its design somewhat weird.
It has no camera ‘visor’ anymore on the back, which was instead replaced by a rounded rectangle island with two oval-shaped areas inside of it, stacked on top of each other, carrying the cameras themselves.
As a prototype, it looked unfinished and actually seems like Google is going with this design, as today CAD-based renders of the Pixel Fold 2 have been leaked, and the phone looks identical to the one in that hands-on shot from earlier this month.
